Why is no one talking about Dion

Why why why why why???

The usual names are being thrown around - Manley, Rock, Ignatieff, Stronach (please!), etc. But no one is bringing up Stephane Dion. He's the one minister that throughout the sponsorship inquiry maintained integrity. He's the strongest federalist in the country. His methodical, passionate defence of the federation during the Chretien years was wonderful. He is brilliant.

If one percent of the attention being lavished on Ignatieff were being focused on Dion, we'd be signing his praises to the heavens.

And another note: They should have parachuted Ignatieff into a western riding. Given that Westerners never seem to go for Ontarians, even though Quebecers and Ontarians will apparently happily vote for a Westerner (just not us treacherous latte-sipping Torontonians), if the Liberals want to get the West back, they should have put him in a Vancouver riding.

Stephane Dion's gotta run for the leadership. He's the only consensus leader that I can see healing the wounds caused by the Chretien/Martin death sruggle. The party's grassroots adores him as well and this will be crucial for raising $$$ 'cause the party's hurting. I've been thinking about starting up a 'Draft Dion' website for a few weeks now. I know that it will most likely not have any impact whatsoever on the race but I think it would be neat for building support amongst the grassroots for Stephane. Do you guys think I should go through with it or is it basically a waste of time?
(By the way, I'm not a paid operative for the Dion camp or anything like that; I'm just a young student who loves this party and is willing to do whatever it takes to help rebuild it. I'm just SO sick of this feud thats tearing our party apart)

Definately set up a website...Dion has to run. Personally, at this point I'm split between him and Ignatieff...but I really am split. No one else is even close in my mind.

Everyone is forgetting about Allan Rock.

That is folly, as he has yet to make a decision.

wow...it's about time someone pointed out dion. he's the perfect candidate not only to unite and lead the party internally, but also to take it back to its glory days of national support from coast to coast to coast. he's intelligent, well-spoken, francophone, consensus-building, and a true federalist. go dion!!

I was not a fan of Chretien or Martin. Trudeau was the last great leader Canada had, and those are mighty big shoes to fill. The only problem with Trudeau, of course was that he caused a lot of economic havoc and hardship in Alberta, and the party he led may never be forgiven for that. But Mr. Dion seems to have the same great combination of brains, guts and integrity. I do not know very much about Mr. Dion, but what I have seen of him, I really like. I would like to see more and obviously I am not alone in that thinking...So e-mail his office and give him your support. Let him know you are willing to sell memberships for him in your part of this great country.

Sure, Dion's great and we support him, but I'm totally against the kind of leadership contest whereby party memberships are sold by the various campaigns in order to gain the most votes.

I realize I've been away awhile, but...HELLO! isn't that still how it's done? by ALL the parties?

Yes, but that doesn't mean it's right. The Liberals should take steps to avoid a repeat of the Martin-Chretien war by ensuring no candidate can buy the leadership, or take control of all the riding associations (who select convention delegates)
